Pickin up

I did 38 mins on the track yesterday and another 38 mins today. Slow speeds. My focus is running 5X a week and maintaining it. Then after I can do that, I introduce variety into it. So I am building a base first. Building discipline, knowing the times, the new environment, strengthening my quads and ensuring my hamstrings remain supple.
So that when I start to jack it up, my body can handle it.
Below is Christine Ohuruogu coming through at the end to win the 400m title in a past race.

I Moved. Now I start Running from a new Location

I had a very busy weekend. Sunday morning I didnt go for the LSR because my back was paining. My hands were aching and I was feeling feverish. So I slept the morning off.
I have moved to a bigger and better house. My house. But I am not sure of the neighbourhood outside our court which is about one hectare. But I have to try. A Man must Try. There is a 1Km stretch of dust road without street lights and thats the one I am not very comfortable about. But like they say, running is not for sissies.
I left home at 7.43am today and was in the office by 8.10 am. This means I can comfortably leave the house at 7.30 and make it to the office by 8am. What this means is that I have a 30 minutes bonus!
So I can wake up at 5.30am instead of 5am!
Excellent.
So, TWTF Off LSROff. From tomorrow.
Here is Joe Daddy Stevenson - never Give up.

Ana 38 mins

I was up at 5 and did my 38 minutes. My speed is picking up. I rest tomorrow while I will be busy moving house. Then Sunday, hopefully, I do the long run in my new location.
Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar has added Randy Couture in his training camp for UFC 116 against Shane Carwin.

Back after 10 days rest

I was away on work. Travelled across many towns and decided since I was in unfamiliar surroundings every other day, It was time to take a break and let nagging injuries heal. Any injuries from here on I may have to run off the stoic way.

I ran yeaterday and today. I have decided to do 38 minutes four times per week and start 40 minutes mid July. Meanwhile, From Sunday I resume my long Slow runs (LSR) and I start with one hour this Sunday.

I will be running Sunday (LSR), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
So Sato and Monday are rest days.
From Mid July I start speedwork in form of tempo runs and fartleks.
The next three weeks will focus on "pushing gently" especially after 3Kms (when my body is warmed up).
Here is Clay Guida. Much respected in MMA for his unrelenting, never giving-up spirit.

I woke up but found it drizzling so I didnt run today. Aaah! recovery time. Anytime baby!
Today I give you Hector Lombard, one of MMA's best.
He is no 43 out of the top 50 as per bleacher report.
Cheers.

Still Going on - Shin Splints

I ran yesterday and today and I have splintered shins now on my left leg. I am doing toe raises and doing my best to better the condition.

I have dropped 3Kgs.

Cheers. Today I give you Laushantea Moore.

American sprinter Lashauntea Moore produced the best performance of the “Grande Prêmio Caixa Maringá de Atletismo” by running a stunning PB of 10.97 in the 100m on Sunday (30) at the “Estádio Willie Davis” in the Brazilian city of Maringá, state of Paraná.

40 mins run week

I did 40 mins today and will do so for 5 days this week. I have lost three Kgs which is great. My left shin is kinda painful so I will work on those toe raises. I am glad my knees are fine. Here is Dibaba's nightmare.

End of 36 mins Week

The week went well. I managed 5 days back to back. I am still running slowly - about 6Kms. I have decided to just add  2 mins next week (instead of 4) and concentrate on speed and good form.
I need to do more work on my compartment muscles because I felt some pain in my shins today. My knees are much better and I credit my good form (Head back, chest out) and my quad-strengthening muscles.
So next week I start a gradual push toward speed. By the time I am doing 40 min runs, I want to be able to do 6K in 25 mins.
Here is Mike Campbell (black trunks) vs. Yves Edwards.
Cheers

Another Run - Speed is coming to me

I did another 36 mins run. I got the internal "push" to run faster today and I did and had a negative split.
My speed is improving. I just want to concentrate on my form and ensure I eliminate knee pains.
Today I give you David Rudisha. He should be squaring off against Kaki in a few days time.

Cheers.

Good Run

Another 36 minutes. I have realized my form has been my problem all along with the splintered shins and knee pains. I have discovered a better form that is faster and kinder to my body. Today I was faster and feel better. This is great!
The guy below needs no intro.

36 Mins Week

I did my first 36 mins today and I am going for 5 of them. I realized my form was bad so I will be working on it.
Meanwhile, Tim Sulvia beat the worlds strongest man, easily.

The Week is Done

I did my 30 mins today. The knee pain is gone. I am resting for two days then I start 35mins next week. Meanwhile, the worlds strongest man, Mariusz Pudzianowski (below) is joining MMA and weighed in yesterday. Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia weighed in at 305 pounds and five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski weighed 273 on Thursday in Worcester, Mass. The two square off Friday on pay-per-view as the headliner of Moosin MMA.
Cheers.

Another 30 mins - One Kilo gone

I have lost a Kg so I must be doing something right. I did another 30 mins. Superficial pain in my right knee which I ignore carefully. Swamped at work.

Ana 30 mins - Refining My Chess

I did 30 mins today. My right knee ached for a while after about 1500m then it eased off. So far so good. My weight is holding steady. I am refining my chess openings. I am right now looking at 1. e4 and I am refining my Grand Prix attack against the Sicilian defense.
Very soon I want to kick Kips ass. He wont know what hit him. And oh, to make matters worse or better, I have both Fritz 12 and Chessmaster grandmaster edition to practice with and almost 100 books.

Meanwhile below is the first guy above 70 Kgs to do 10K in under 27 minutes. Chris Solinsky weighs 73Kgs, compare that to the top guns at this level, Bekele at 54 kg (119 lbs), Gebrselassie (56 kg/123 lbs), Tergat (63kg/132 lbs) and Sammy Wanjiru (52kg/115 lbs). He is an outlier.
And oh, btw, he runs 100 – 120 miles a week.Carefully ponder the implications of that.

Too Much Water

It rained almost the whole night last night. But I wasnt daunted. I was up as usual, encountered the pools of water (drainage system is a bitch where I live) I, skipped over the first few pools, jumped over a cars bonnet then 50 metres from the house, met a pool that covered the whole road.
I went back and worked indoors. I had a good workout though.
Today I give you Fedor Emelianenko, the best fighter on the planet.
Cheers.

30 minutes week

I started today with 30 mins run and it will be so till Friday. Its still raining so it was muddy and stuff but it went well. Speed and distance are not a factor right now: I want to concentrate on the discipline, proper form and fitness. I am making sure my quads are strong to protect my knees, which are my main worry and also working on my compartment muscles for my shins.
I have started doing push ups and squats too. If this week goes well, I will probably add some 5 minutes next week.
I have bought a food diary and my weight simply has to go down.
Meanwhile, Andrei Arlovski got outpunched in Strikeforce Heavy Artillery and Overeem beat Brett Rodgers to retain the HW championship.
Here is Alistair Overeem pounding Brett Rodgers. And Oh, my VSAT link is baaaack!

I rest tomorrow and Sunday and Monday I am baack.

Third Run this week

Still taking it easy. Working on my abs, quads, shins and calves. Its raining a lot here so there is a lot of mud and slosh and puddles of water to jump over or wade into at 5.20 am. It feels like I am training for a cross country race but oh well....
At any rate, I will do my last run for this week and then jump to 30 mins next week.
May 29th we have UFC 114 pitting Rashad Evans against Quinton Rampage Jackson. A fight to watch against all odds, if any.
Heres Rashad at a Press conference and Rampage below fooling around with Kenny Florian.

Goin on well

Pole pole tu. Doing 26 mins runs this week. Swamped at work.
Cheers

Things are Bad!

I threw away discipline on my diet and have added another Kilo or so. I ran 3 times last week and didnt run yesterday. I ran today and now there is no looking back and no excuses.
And I will be getting a food diary. I shall cut weight verily, verily I tell ya.
Meanwhile, Shogun beat machida in their rematch. A Rematch that has reshaped MMA landscape.
Here is Machida. Out cold. Amazing.

4th Run

I went for my 4th run today. I just need to keep doing the leg curls. I am also studying openings in chess now. I have completed reading Blink and now want to go to Outliers or Kuhn.
My sweetheart will be resuming her studies soon meaning I can start doing some interesting activity in the evenings, like playing chess.
Here is Anderson Silva, the best middleweight in the world. He makes some of the best look like they dont know WTF they are doing in the cage. He ownded Forrest Griffin then punched Demian Maia's eyes shut and left his nose leaking like a hole at the bottom of a barrel.

3rd Run

Did my 3rd run today. Longer distance but too short to even discuss.
Meanwhile, Patrick Ivuti is preparing to defend his Prague Marathon title on 9th May.

I went further today. Its lovely. I am still feeling out the dawn air, my feet, the road and my body.

Started Running Today

Was up at 5:20. Did a short run. Didnt even break to sweat.
Whats important at this point is that I showed up. I want to make that a habit then we can start talking time and distance.
I should watch this movie even though the reviews have been harsh.

I did not watch it. Some sites said it would be on BBC Two. I don't know what the (beep) BBC Two means. I have BBC W, BBC E, BBC L and BBC K. The (beep)?*!?%!?!#$#
Meanwhile, Jose Aldo defeated Uriah Faber in WEC 43.

Stretching Complete

I have stretched for the last 5 days and I can now start running next week. I targeted my hamstrings and compartment muscles which I rely on to protect my knee. I also worked on my abs, back and waist.
I have added a new site called the basement tapes to my list of fav sites. I like the content, the angle and the presentation of the material the guy has on his site.
Meanwhile, Wanjiru, Abel Kirui, Duncan Kibet and Tadese have arrived in London. I cant wait.
Here is myself, my lovely wife (on my left) and a friend.

Cheruiyot Sets Boston Record

Kenyan Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot ran 2:05:52 to demolish the course record at the venerable B.A.A. Boston Marathon in that event's 114th running on Monday (19). Cheruiyot took a staggering minute and twenty-two seconds off the previous record of 2:07:14 set by Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot (no relation) in 2006.
Amazing shit.
I have no words. It means one can even set a world record on a hilly course like Boston.
Amazing shit.
Hall and Meb took 45th and 5th respectively while Kebede and Merga replayed the 2008 olympics debacle with Merga fading at the last Km and Kebede cruising past him to take second place. I am looking for the video.
Meanwhile, Wanjiru, Kirui and others are stuck in Nairobi due to flights to Europe being grounded. They are to travel to London and demolish the course record and possibly the world record.
 I am still stretching.

Ryan Hall (USA) leads the pack near the one-mile marker. He finished fourth with a time of 2:08:41, the fastest ever for a U.S. runner at the Boston Marathon. (Greg M. Cooper/ US Presswire)

I am Back

I started with stretching today. I am enjoying and settling in in my married life. I have added so much weight and I want to lose it as I progressively get back. I want to spend this week stretching and waking the muscles up then next week I start with short distances.
Today is the Boston Marathon and next week we have the London Marathon and I would like to watch how Abel Kirui and Wanjiru tackle the latter and how Merga handles the anticipated American onslaught in Boston.
UFC 113 is scheduled to take place on May 8th and features the biggest rematch of the year. I cant wait.
Mealnwhile, Mohammed King Mo Lawal is the new Stikeforce light-Heavyweight champion after beating Gerard Mousasi.
